Skybooks E-commerce for Etsy and other e-commerce sellers
Automated accounting for Etsy sellers
Skybooks E-commerce is an ecommerce accounting application developed and operated by Skybooks (Multihub, SIA).
It allows Etsy sellers using Skybooks to securely connect their own Etsy shops and import transaction information required for bookkeeping, VAT and OSS reporting, payment reconciliation and financial reporting.
Skybooks E-commerce is currently being tested with a limited group of existing Skybooks users before a wider release.
How the Etsy integration works
1. The seller connects their own shop
A Skybooks user chooses connect Etsy from their Skybooks account.
2. The seller authorizes Skybooks through Etsy
The user is redirected to Etsy and signs in directly with Etsy.
Etsy shows the permissions requested by Skybooks, and the seller decides whether to authorize access.
Skybooks uses Etsy's OAuth authorization process for access to private shop information. Etsy requires OAuth for private member data.
3. Skybooks imports accounting information
After authorization, Skybooks E-commerce can retrieve the Etsy information needed to provide the accounting functionality selected by the customer.
This may include:
shop identification;
orders and sales transactions;
transaction dates and currencies;
payments;
refunds;
marketplace fees;
taxes and VAT information; and
other transaction information required for accounting and reconciliation.
Skybooks intends to request only the Etsy information necessary to provide its accounting services. Etsy's API Terms specifically prohibit applications from requesting more data than is necessary for their intended functionality.
What Skybooks does not do
Skybooks does not ask Etsy sellers to:
provide their Etsy password;
create their own Etsy developer application;
provide Skybooks with Etsy API keys; or
share credentials belonging to another application.
Each seller connects their own Etsy account directly through Etsy's authorization process.
Skybooks also does not use screen scraping to retrieve private Etsy shop information.
How the information is used
Information imported from Etsy is used to provide services to the connected Etsy seller, including:
bookkeeping;
sales and payment reconciliation;
reconciliation of Etsy fees and refunds;
VAT and OSS reporting;
financial reporting; and
investigation of accounting discrepancies.
Skybooks does not sell Etsy member information or make it available to advertising networks.
Seller control
Etsy sellers remain in control of their connection.
A seller can revoke Skybooks E-commerce's access to Etsy at any time. Once access is revoked, Skybooks can no longer retrieve new information through that authorization. Etsy provides users with a Connected Apps area where access can be revoked.
Previously imported information may need to be retained where required to provide agreed accounting services or comply with legal accounting and tax record-retention obligations.
